Blues Band
After months of preparation, countless meetings and phone calls, and lots of plain old hard work, the moment has arrived for TrentonFest organizers. The two-day festival, in its second year of existence, will kick off Friday afternoon, when food stands open at 4:30 p.m. Friday Attractions The carnival rides will crank up at 6 p.m. and run until 11 p.m., and one of the famed Budweiser Clydesdales will be in the park from 6 to 8 p.m. Photo opporunities with the brawny equine will be available, but visitors are asked to bring their own cameras. Polka Choice will entertain the crowd from 7 to 9 p.m., and the feature entertainment, Soulard Blues Band, will take the stage at 9 p.m. The Clinton County Men's Slow Pitch softball tournament will be on-going throughout the weekend, with games beginning Friday evening as well. Saturday Attractions The festivities kick off early Saturday morning when the Trenton Nut House Club begins breakfast service at 7:30 a.m., along with registration for the 5K Run/Walk and 1K Walk, which begins at 8 a.m. Registration for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Bike Ride to the Lake will also start first thing Saturday morning, with the ride taking off from Trenton Park at 8:30 a.m. Three routes are offered, a 62-mile trek to Carlyle Lake and back; a shorter 50-mile route to Carlyle Lake; and a family ride of 12 miles to Sportsman's Lake north of Trenton and back. The shorter ride leaves the park at 9 a.m. Registration for the TrentonFest motorcycle poker run will start at 8:30, and the ride leaves at 11:30 a.m. Saturday action in the Clinton County men's softball league tournament will start at noon, and the carnival rides will begin operation at 1 p.m. Rides will be closed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to allow attention to be focused on the 5:30 p.m. parade. Although organizers had re-booked a return engagement for one of last year's most popular attractions, the remote control NASCAR race track, the vendor pulled out of the commitment about a week ago. It has been replaced by a Karate Demonstration that will last from 1 to 3 p.m. in the south pavilion at the park. Petite Miss TrentonFest, Little Miss TrentonFest, and Junior Miss Trenton Fest will be crowned during a ceremony starting at 3 p.m. in the park, a departure from last year's schedule, when the pageant was held after the parade. The parade lineup will be on South Main Street and travels across Broadway to Third Street before turning east toward the park. This year's parade will feature an appearance by St. Louis Cardinals mascot FredbirdÆ for the kids to enjoy, and by Rams cheerleaders for the men (bachelors only) to admire. The cheerleaders will also help sell 50-50 tickets for a special Saturday drawing. Carnival rides will start operating again at 7 p.m. and music on the park grounds will be provided by some of the parade bands. Nudge is the featured music act for Saturday evening, and they'll start performing at 8 p.m. Winners of the silent auction that will be ongoing throughout the celebration will be announced at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and there will be two $250 winners drawn at 10 p.m. in the Citizens for Trenton Early Bird sweepstakes. The men's softball tournament will button up the weekend on Sunday, when the championship game starts at 1 p.m. Other attractions to draw visitors to the TrentonFest include food stands, wine and beer gardens, hooligan/poker stands, and the silent auction. ![]() |
